Obituary

Zanyah Alexandria Simmons was born on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 to Rosetter Simmons and Joseph Dozier in Charleston, SC.  God opened his heavenly gates for her beautiful soul on Thursday, June 22, 2023.

On the day Zanyah was born, she was given the name "Suga" by her cousin Kandy, because of her 5lb size and sweet spirit.  The name "Suga" was truly fitting because she was the sweetest soul and brought so much joy to everyone she came in contact with.

Suga attended school in Dorchester School District Four and graduated from Woodland High School in 2022.  She was a part of the WHS Cheerleading Squad, the WHS Marching Band Fierce Dance Team, and the WHS Track and Field Team where she won many State and Lower State titles.  She was known to be upbeat and lively with an infectious smile.  Suga was also known as our "party starter" and "TikTok Queen."

Suga was a member of New Grace United Methodist Church where she served as a part of the Youth Choir.  However, her duties did not stop there.  Whenever she was called upon, she was there with her smile, willing to assist.  Especially when it came to choreographing and performing a spiritual dance.  Spiritual dancing was her passion.  She has performed at various church programs throughout the area.

Memories of Suga will live on through her parents, Rosetter Simmons of Saint George, SC and Joseph Dozier of Manning, SC; her brother, Zaunce Simmons; her uncles, Richard Simmons, Darrell (Tammy) Ravenell, Ricky (Aldenise) Simmons, her aunt, Marina Simmons, her Bonus Dad "Da", Harold (Sharon) Jennings, and her Godmother/Aunt, Lucretia Myers.  She will be missed beyond measure by all of her little cousins, who each shared special bond with Suga.

Her memories will also live on through her host of great aunts, great uncles, cousins, and friends.  Her life will always be treasured and remembered by the "Famous Five" and one Special Friend.
