Mrs. Yolanda Elaine Walden Britt, a woman of strength and compassion, was born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 17, 1947. She was a beloved daughter to Lester and Willie B. Walden. Yolanda grew up in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn with her siblings, Lester Jr., Tina, Michael, Eddie, Dennis, Keith, Kevin, Karen, and Sylvia, in Marcy and Sumner Houses.
She graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in New York City.
In New York, she met her husband of 53 years, Reverend Jesse James Britt. They adopted their son, Reverend Dr. Ken J. Walden. They eventually relocated to Jesse's hometown of St. George, South Carolina. Yolanda was a devoted and faithful servant of the Lord and deeply rooted in her community. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in St. George. She was known for generosity and warmth. As a mother, she demonstrated abundant unconditional love that had no end. Her 40-year commitment to the development of children as a childcare center owner exemplifies her dedication to nurturing, teaching, and connecting with children and families. She was a phenomenal mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend, and mentor. Her life was a testament to her resilience and love for her family and community. She completed her life in Myrtle Beach, SC, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
She is survived by her son, Rev. Dr. Ken J. Walden, his wife Michelle; brothers Michael Walden and Kevin Walden; sister Karen Walden; and her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
