Willie Risher was called home to God on April 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. He was born August 8, 1935 in Reevesville, SC to the late Mr. Albert Risher and Mrs. Sarah Lary. He was reared by the late Mr. & Mrs. Bennie (Daisy) Elmore. He was educated in the Public Schools of Dorchester County.
At an early age he joined New Hope AME Church and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. There he was a Class Leader and a very dedicated member and church worker.
Willie joined the United States Army May 26, 1958 and completed his duty April 30, 1964.
He later moved to New York City. He was joined in holy matrimony to Nellie Ruth Hopkins on October 27, 1960. This union was blessed with four children.
Willie retired from New York City Transit Authority in 1991 where he worked for 20 years. After retiring Willie returned home to St .George, SC.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife, Nellie Risher of the home; three daughters, Gwendolyn Risher of Charleston, SC, Michelle Risher of Brooklyn, NY and Tieysha Risher of Hopkins, SC; one son, Willie A. Risher of New York, NY; two grand children, Travis Risher of Columbia, SC and William Hopkins of Brooklyn, NY; one great grandchild, Nauticah Risher; three brothers, Joseph (Catherine) Risher of Reevesville, SC, Reggie Haynes of Washington, DC and Willie C. Risher of Springtown, SC; one sister, Crystal (David) Brown of Springtown, SC; one uncle, Louis Risher of Washington, DC; one aunt, Mary Risher of Reevesville, SC; two brothers-in-law, James (Lizzie) Hopkins of AR and Arthur Gardner of St. George, SC; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hopkins of Bronx, NY and Margaret Hopkins of St. George, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
