Obituary

Willie Gene Britt lived a life full of joy for 79 years. He was born on September 12,1943, to the late Henry Britt and Roxanna Britt of Saint George, SC. On March 28, 2023 he was summoned by God's heavenly angels under the care of Pruitthealth in Ridgeway, SC.

Gene received his education from Dorchester County Public School System. He left home at an early age to explore Miami, Florida for a few years and then he ventured to Brooklyn, New York in 1962 where he made his mark. Gene was a dedicated worker and entrepreneur for most of his life. In the 1970's he was employed by Hannah Products in Westbury, Long Island. Gene was also employed at Electric Paper Company for several years. In addition, he drove trucks up and down the east coast for many years. Gene was also an entrepreneur in which he was owner and operator of his very own Social Lounge. Gene will always be remembered for his coolness as he sported his Kangol Hats and his untouchable suits. He is also known as the $20 Uncle as he spread his love among nieces, nephews, and strangers in his presence every time he visited South Carolina. After retirement, Gene returned to his roots of South Carolina where he enjoyed the company of hanging with his family and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by four brothers, Deacon John Henry Britt, Reverend Jesse Britt, Reverend Dr. Julius Britt and Willie B. Lewis; five sisters, Camie E. Beckham, Thomasenia Walker, Henry B. McFadden, Hazel Pankey and Maxine Britt.

He leaves to cherish fond memories: a devoted sister, Joeann Lawrence of Summerville, SC, two sons Gregory Duggins of Brooklyn, NY, and Darrell Britt of Bronx, NY and two daughters, Carla Britt of Bronx, NY, and Crystal Britt of Brooklyn, NY. Gene also leaves behind a legacy of ten grandchildren: Gregory J. Williams, Ebony L. Williams, Patricia E. Birch, Karen Britt, Raven Cobbs, Layla Mohammed, Avery Mohammed, Aaron Britt, George Williams, and Cayla Gold, and four great grandchildren: Amauri Williams, Alaya Williams, Amarah Williams, and Divine Legend Williams. He will also be cherished and missed by his two sisters-in-law, Gloria Britt of St. George, SC and Elaine Britt of Los Angeles, CA and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
