William McKinley Hopkins passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024. Born on November 13, 1942 in St. George, SC, to the late Mose Hopkins and the late Corine Hopkins. William was a man marked by his robust personality and deep love for his family. He was a proud native of St. George and carried with a profound appreciation for his heritage.
William's career spanned several decades and industries. He contributed to the growth and infrastructure of Tampa through his work with the City of Tampa Public Works. He played a pivotal role in the family business as Vice President of Hopkins Trucking and honed his skills as a welder at Tampa Shipyard. William's leisure time was often spent outdoors, where he found joy and tranquility in fishing and hunting.
William was predeceased by his beloved wife, Paulette Hopkins; his dear children, William Hopkins, Jr. and Thurston Harrison, II; his siblings, Freddie Mae Smith, Nathaniel Hopkins, and Harold Hopkins; and his parents Mose Hopkins and Corine Hopkins.
He is fondly remembered and survived by his devoted children, Phoebe Hopkins Devaughn, Stephanie Hopkins and Paula Hopkins; his loving siblings, Mary E. Hopkins and Bertha A. Makola; and his cherished grandchildren, William M. Hopkins, III, Blessing Allen, Reddick Allen, Bellamy Perry, Edrik Allen, and Reagan Kater.
