Virginia Ruth Risher, the beloved daughter of the late Reverend Hebert and Ella Mae Stokes Risher, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, October 14, 2023, at 1:09 am surrounded by her loved ones.  Virginia was born on July 10, 1937, in Colleton County (Smoaks Community).

Virginia was educated in the public schools of Colleton County. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Lovely Hill Baptist Church in Smoaks, South Carolina.  She was known as a faithful, modest and quiet member.  She would rejoice with worship in the holy spirit of the Lord and loved to praise God through dance. Over many years she served faithfully until relocating to Geogia with her granddaughter and family.

An independent and consistent member of the Lawrenceville Senior Center for the past seventeen years in Lawrenceville, Georgia.  Virginia was serious about her weekly attendance and socializing with her peers while participating in a variety of activities such as crafts, games, cookouts, parties, and most of all the yearly senior prom. Virginia became a member of the "Red Hats Society" and enjoyed the social outings with the group and their meetings.  She fell in love with the club signature color a combination of Purple and Red. Virginia was a Proud, Independent Queen affectionately known amongst friends in Georgia as" Grandma".

Virginia was known best for her joyful spirit and the light that would always radiate around her. We will miss her warm big hugs, affectionate smiles, contagious laughter, love of music and don't forget those unforgettable (good) knees when she dance!

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, and five siblings, Herbert Risher Jr., Clara Jenkins, Deloris Johnson, Luemisher Meanor, and Louella Brown and great grandson Dior Ramelo Azi Thomas.

Virginia leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, JoAnn Anderson, Bamberg, South Carolina, and  Hazel Smalls (Jodia), Ridgeville, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Granddaughter/Caregiver Desiree Britt (Eric), Lawrenceville, Georgia, LaTria Anderson, Branchville, South Carolina, Johnathan Smalls, Ridgeville, South Carolina, Adrian Anderson (Tiffany), Houston, Texas, Tocara Smalls, Ridgeville, South Carolina, Roxie Fordham (Rich), Summerville, South Carolina, Devontia A. Thomas (Zumar), Buford Georgia, and Floyd Stellmarker, Bamberg, South Carolina; twenty-four great grands, Dezell, Amaris, & DeMari Britt, V. Anderson, Fatima Elarabi, Johnathan Elarabi, Jabar Anderson, Jaden Anderson & Tarijah Anderson, Madavion, Zamaria, Courtney, Maddison, & Eddie Smalls, Trinity, Aiden, & Ashlynn Anderson, Miya & Macai Nesbitt, Ryann & Rich Fordham,  Harmoni Aziza, & Amila Zariya Thomas;  four sisters, Helen Linder, Smoaks, South Carolina, Maimie Graham, Southlake, Texas, Vymell Corbitt, Austin Georgia, and Bessie Jenkins, Smoaks, South Carolina; two brothers, Charlie Risher, Patterson, New Jersey and Thomas Risher, Columbia, South Carolina; Special Cousins Eleanor Risher, Rosedale Maryland and Estelle Risher, Flowery Branch, Georgia and her Senior Friends at Lawrenceville Senior Center. She also leaves to mourn her passing a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
