Life Reflections

"This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24

This afternoon we pause to pay tribute to the memory of Sister Virginia Jenkins Kelly. She answered God's call into eternal peace on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at her home after an extended illness.

Virginia was born on April 7, 1925, in Dorchester County, the daughter of the late Carson and Orrie Bell Cobbs Jenkins. She was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County.

Virginia became a member of St. Peter United Methodist Church at an early age, where she served on the usher board, and missionary board until her health declined. Virginia was employed at the Holiday Inn in St. George, SC until she retired.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Ernest Kelly. To this union eight children were born. Virginia was preceded in death by one son—Nathaniel D. Kelly and brother—Monroe Jenkins. She leaves to cherish her memories: Four daughters, Lillie Mae Sanders, and Lula Mae Kelly, both of Brooklyn, NY, Ernestine Sanders of Mims, FL and Josephine Reddick of Titusville, FL.; Three sons, Johnnie B. (Louise) Kelly and Joseph Kelly of St. George, SC and Leroy (Barbara) Kelly of Dorchester, SC; Virginia raised three grandchildren, Lester Kelly of Maryland, Sharon Kelly of St. George, SC and George Kelly of Columbia SC; one sister Lillie Bell Bryant of St. George SC; Fourteen grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Two close friends, Lula Riley and Corrine Bryant; and the entire Odyssey Health Care Center.
