Virgil Smith, Jr., was called home on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Virgil was born June 11, 1958 to the late Virgil and Noemia Smith.

Virgil was a graduate of the 1976 class of Harleyville-Ridgeville High School. While in high school, Virgil played basketball, football and baseball. He was employed by Upchurch Lumber Company in St. George, SC and Branton Lumber for a few years. Virgil enjoyed laughing and having a good time especially during softball season. When softball season was over, you could always find him with his boss/"sidekick", Arthur Gardner and Raymond Gardner. Virgil really loved working with them.

Virgil had a heart of gold, he would help anyone, he would give you his last, and even the shirt off his back. That was just the type of person he was. Once again the family chain has been broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one the family chain will link again. Until then, we will hold and cherish his memories close to our hearts.

Virgil was preceded in death by one sister, Mary McKoy and two nephews, DeWayne Smith and Lorenzo Davis.

Left to mourn and cherish his memories; one son, DeWarren (Monique) Washington of Chattanooga, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Sydney, Morgan, Charity, and DeAnne Washington all of Chattanooga, Tennessee; three brothers, Albert Mack and Allen (Libby) Smith both of Dorchester, SC and Bruce (Queen) Smith of Walterboro, SC; three sisters, Sallie (Ronnie) Johnson and Birdie Davis both of Harleyville, SC and Donnie Davis of Harleyville, SC; four aunts, two special aunts, Carolina Brown of Walterboro, SC and Frances Boyd of Harleyville, SC, Lollian Patter of Virginia and Jerrie Smith of Staten Island, NY; one godson, Brandon Ross; a very special friend Arthur Gardner and a host of family and friends.
