Obituary

Virdie Lee Daniel

The Matriarch of our Family, Virdie Lee Daniel, more affectionately known as "Sister," was born in the close-knit "Ridge" community of Ridgeville, SC to the late William Zeke and Eva (Bowman) Graham on August 14, 1922. She was the only girl out of four children amongst her brothers Carol, Harry Benjamin, and King David… hence the name "Sister."

On Saturday Morning, June 10, 2023, God looked around and needed another rose for his garden. So, he saw fit to call "Sister" from her earthly home and plant her in His heavenly garden.

"A Time to Work"

"Sister" received her education in the public schools of Dorchester County School District.

She was gainfully employed by the Dorchester County School District 2, where she was a custodial technician serving at Knightsville Elementary School until her retirement.

"A Time for Love"

"Sister" was married to the late Bertie Way Sr. of Ridgeville, and, from this union, there were three children. Clarence Way (who preceded her in death), Bertie Way Jr., and Cathy Lee McCarter.

After his passing, she later remarried Rowland Daniel of Andalusia, Alabama, and to this union two children were born, Darlean Haynes and Paul Daniel Sr.

"A Time to Plant"

"Sister" understood the importance of living a life centered in Christ and accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church in Ridgeville, where she attended faithfully, until her health started to fail. She was a member of the Steward Board and a part of the Woman's Missionary Society. She belonged to class twenty-one under a few different leaders with her most recent leader being Bro. Sidney Aiken. "Sister" loved attending church and traveling with her daughter Darlean to Usher Anniversaries on Sunday afternoons. When asked what was her favorite part about attending, she would always say, "I just love hearing everyone sing".

Precious Memories:

Her siblings, Carol (Heneritta) Graham, Harry Benjamin (Marcella) Graham, King David (Edna Mae) Graham and her son Clarence Way all of which proceeded her in death.
