Sister Vera Jordan Hopkins was born November 16, 1960 to the late Felix and Helen Britt Murray. She was the youngest daughter of nine siblings.

Vera grew up in the Texas Community of St. George, South Carolina. Vera accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She joined the St. Mark Baptist Church where she was actively involved. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, served on the Usher Board, and in any other capacity that she was needed. She served faithfully until her health declined.

Vera was a 1979 graduate of St. George High School in St. George, SC. She received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Benedict College in 1984. She did additional studies at various other universities in South Carolina.

Vera's first teaching job was in Colleton County School District. She was also employed by Orangeburg Consolidated Three School District, and New York Board of Education. The school district in which she retired was Dorchester School District Four. Vera's love for children afforded her many opportunities to work with children. She served as the Site Supervisor for the summer feeding program and offered free tutoring services to the children in her community and neighboring communities. Vera was an educator in every sense of the word.

Vera was always willing to help her fellow man. She was a very independent woman who never complained. She trusted in God no matter what came her way. Her famous quote was "this to will pass and triumph is over."

Vera met and married the late Elliot Jordan. Later she married Earnest Hopkins.

Vera was preceded in death by the love of her life Elliot Jordan and her brother, Errand Murray.

Vera was a woman of character, integrity and generosity and leaves a legacy of love in the hearts of all those who were touched by her life. She leaves to cherish and reflect on her wonderful legacy of love and memories, her loving children, Sayquan Jordan of Antioch, Tenn., Courtney Raquel Jordan of Atlanta, Ga., Maxwell Julian Hopkins of the home and stepson, Julius Jordan in Antioch, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Cameron Kingston Jordan and Cassidy Raquel Jordan; four sisters, Glennie (John C) Hill of St. George, SC, Minnie (Ervin) Mosley and Alice (Otis) Mosley both of Atlanta, Ga. and Neomia Calloway of St. George, SC; three brothers, Fred Murray, Lester (Ora Lee) Murray and Rodney (Denise) Murray all of St. George, SC; mother-in-law, Deloris Jordan and father-in-law, Albert Jordan of Far Rockaway, NY; in-laws, Antoinette Jordan, Adrianne (Stephen) Cumberbatch, Michael (Ordrine) Jordan, Derrick Jordan, Ruth Hopkins, Abram Primus, Arnold (Samantha) Hopkins , Kenneth (Desiree) Hopkins and Wayne Eric (Wanda) Hopkins ; aunts, Louise (Charles) Long, Christine Primus, Eva Syphrett, Martha (Fred) Clark, Mary (Roscoe) Smith, Alma Coleman, Bessie Smith, Veronica Cooper and Nellie Risher; uncles, Emmett (Dorothy) Britt, Allen Britt and Husher Edmonds; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special children, other relatives and friends.
