Vantresse Lavarris McMillan was born to Mazel McRae and James McMillan on July 29, 1966.  Vantresse was affectionately known as 'Van' to those who really knew him.

He departed this life on March 22, 2021.

Van was educated in and graduated from the public-school systems of Georgia and South Carolina.  He then went on to pursue a Bachelor's Degree from Voorhees College where he became a member of the Sigma Theta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, "The Best Fraternity that ever existed" as Van would say. He received his Master's Degree from Strayer University.

Van started his career in law enforcement in Georgia where his love for the law began to take off.  As he progressed in his field, he became the First Black Chief of Police of New Ellenton, S.C.

His continued work in law enforcement included positions with the Office of the Inspector General (Washington, DC) and the National Zoological Park Police.  As he climbed the law enforcement ladder, several Departments of Veteran's Affairs had the honor to have Van as their leader.

Van married his high school sweetheart, Linda, on April 15, 2000.

Van enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He would open their home and provide support & guidance to those that needed a helping hand, especially the youth.

He shared his favorite pastime-Golf- with his family, whether it was Linda taking lessons, Vantrel getting a summer job at the local course, or showing Rondell the specifics of his swing.

His mother, Mazel McRae, preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving wife of 20 years, Linda McMillan: two devoted sons - Marquis Rondell McMillan and Vantrel La'Marcus McMillan: one step-son – Jawuan Jinks: his parents -Mr. & Mrs. James and Patricia McMillan: loving mother figure-Jeanette Edwards: five grandchildren – Jordyn, Vantrel, Jr., Bella-Marie, Logan, Myla: two sisters: Tamela McRae and Jacinda Harris: three brothers- Clarence Bruce Robinson, Tylerchyski McMillan, Brigodare McMillan: seven aunts – Wilma Wrice, Geneva McMillan, Kay Frances McMillan,  Alverdia(Bert) Fields, Jeanette Edwards, Omelia Jackson, Eunice McRae: three uncles-Amos Rayford McRae, Alton McMillan, Kenneth Edwards: eight sisters-in-law – Betty Hopkins, Mabel Hopkins, Cynthia Hopkins, Wanda McMillan, Claudette Hopkins, Carrie Hopkins, Allison Hopkins, Carrie Ann Hopkins: two brothers-in-law – Gregory Hopkins, Owens Hopkins, Jr.; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
