Thelma Brothers Johnson was born on March 5, 1935, in St. George, South Carolina, to the late Amanda Lewis and Walker Brothers.  Thelma was the 4th oldest of 6 children, of which 3 preceded her in death. At an early age, Thelma began her Christian Walk with God at Bethel Baptist Church, in the Texas Community of St. George.  After graduating in1953, from Rosenwald School in St. George, she married, Ransom W. Johnson, the Love of Her Life (who preceded her in death in July 1990) and moved to Washington, D.C., where they began their new life together.

To this union two daughters and one son were born, Diane, Wesley, and Regina.  Thelma was a loving wife and mother.  During Thelma's and Ransom's stay in Washington, D.C, the Family united with Hemingway Temple A.M.E. Church in Northeast Washington, D.C., where they worshipped until their return home to Harleyville, S.C., in 1986, where they reunited with Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Harleyville.  After the death of Ransom, Thelma reunited with her home church, Bethel Baptist Church, in the Texas Community of St. George, where she served faithfully until her health began to fail.  While serving at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Harleyville, she served as Superintendent of the Sunday School for 11 years.

While living in Washington, D.C., she worked as Program Analyst for 25 years and retired in 1986 from the General Services Administration. Thelma also continued her education while in Washington, D.C., graduating from Federal City College (now known as the University of Washington, D.C.) with a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Design and a Minor in Education.   She was also a member of several organizations: to include, the National Association of Fashion and Accessory Designers and the Eastern Star.

Upon returning to Harleyville, she taught school for 16 years at Jenkins Hill, Harleyville-Ridgeville Elementary School as a substitute teacher.  She also taught quilting to seniors at the David Sojourner Senior Center.  Even during her teaching career, Thelma continued to make quilts, clothes, and beautiful Hats.

On Friday, April 11, 2025, at Trident Hospital, the Lord called Thelma to eternal rest.  She leaves to cherish her memories, three Children, Diane Campbell (James), of Hyattsville, Maryland, Ransom W. Johnson, Jr. (LaVerne), Dorchester, SC, and Regina Body(Ronnie), of Clinton, Maryland; one brother, Jo-Nathan Brothers (Alice) of Hardeeville, SC; Walena Weaver (Johnnie), St. George, SC.; two Sisters-in-Law, Georgiana Coafou, Harleyville, SC, and Juanita Hill, Ridgeville, SC. Nine Grandchildren (one preceded her in death); 22Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and sorrowing friends.
