Thelma Barton was born in Augusta, Georgia, May 18, 1943.  She was a woman of grace who loved to dress.  Everything she wore had to match.  She retired from DSS at the age of fifty-five where she lived in New York City.  At the age of sixty she moved to South Carolina, with her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Keith Thompson of Reevesville, South Carolina.  They later moved to St. George, South Carolina where Pamela took care of her until she was called home.

Thelma leaves behind one sister, Willie May Clark of Augusta, Georgia; two daughters, Pamela Thompson of St. George, South Carolina and Sharon Barton Barros of Staten Island, New York; two sons, William J. Barton of New York and Julius Burgess of Virginia; four granddaughters, Ayanna Barros, Aliyah Thompson, Tashiana Roland and Chantel Thompson; three grandsons, Jerrell Barton, Michael Roland and Timothy Barton; ten great grands; a host of nieces and nephews.
