Steven Gelzer the son of the late James Gelzer, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Perry Gelzer, was born in Harleyville, SC on March 31, 1967. He attended Harleyville-Ridgeville Schools in Dorchester County. At a young age he attended Elem Baptist Church in Harleyville, SC. He later joined Bethany Full Gospel Church of Orangeburg, SC where he served on various auxiliaries including the Men's Department, Usher's Board, and the Mass Choir. He was employed by White Craft and Goodyear Tire of Orangeburg, SC. In addition, he was also self employed as a landscaper and car cleaning service.

He was united in Holy matrimony to Cathy Gelzer and together they shared one dedicated son, Jeremiah Gelzer. Steve enjoyed spending time with his son fishing and dining. He also supported him by attending his basketball games. Steve was very proud of his son and let everybody know, "that's my boy".

Steve, as he was affectionately called by those who knew him, was preceded in death by his parents, James Gelzer, Sr. and Elizabeth Perry Gelzer, his brothers John Henry Perry, Sammie Perry, Alexander Gelzer, and Leroy Gelzer.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories his wife Cathy Gelzer and son, Jeremiah Gelzer of Bowman, SC; three sisters Elouise Perry, Eva Mae Gelzer, and Lisa Gelzer all of Harleyville and one brother, James Gelzer, Jr of Harleyville; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Gelzer of Bowman, and Yvonne Gelzer of Orangeburg; his father-in-law, Jerry Baxter (Nell) and brother-in-law Jerry A. Baxter of Syracuse, NY; a special niece, Satoria Gelzer, and a dedicated nephew, Leondrae Baxter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
