Mr. Stacey Xavier Reed son of Miss Verlie Reed (90) and the late Mr. Roger Bowman, Sr. was born on April 18, 1966 in Philadelphia, PA.
He attended Pennsylvania Public Schools and later graduated from high school in 1983 in Philadelphia, PA. Stacey later went to Job Corps in Kentucky where he completed certification in culinary arts/cooking. He was good at his cooking skills in the 80's Stacey relocated to South Carolina. On the day he arrived at the bus station on a Greyhound bus traveling from Philadelphia to Orangeburg, he was greeted by his brother Roger Bowman and grand aunt, the late Mother Mazine Kelly-King. Stacey resided in Columbia, SC for a period of time with his half-sister, Miss Tammy Bethea. He gained employment with Lizard Thicket Restaurant and Shoney's Restaurant in Columbia, SC. He was later employed at Shoney's Restaurant in Orangeburg, SC for more than twenty plus years.
He was well liked by his co-workers. Stacey was a quiet but shy and manner able person with a warm smile. He loved his family and was proud of the accomplishments of his nieces, and nephews. Stacey was easy going. He enjoyed the moments he spent with his family laughing, having fun and enjoying special moments. He was always sharing his experiences and sharing the seriousness of getting to know God and his Son Jesus Christ. Stacey often stopped to say a prayer and ask for forgiveness from God for his sins. Stacey last years of his life was spent around people that showed him compassion as a person namely Pastor Ray (Lorraine) Shuler and others in Orangeburg, SC.
On Tuesday night after eating his last meal from Kentucky Fried Chicken on Highway 301 at 8:30 P.M. an unfortunate train accident occurred and Stacey 54 years of age succumbed to his injuries at the Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties.
Stacey was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents, Thaddeus "M.C." and Edna Kelly-Bowman; his father, Roger Bowman, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his mother, Miss Verlie Reed (90) Philadelphia, PA; two brothers, Lamont Reed, Philadelphia, PA and Roger (Teresa) Bowman, Orangeburg, SC; twin sister, Tracey Reed, Philadelphia, PA; half sister, Tammy Bethea, Columbia, SC; maternal aunts and uncles, paternal aunts and uncle: Effie Bowman-Pompey (James), Philadelphia, PA, Deaconess Barbara Bennett, Rowefett, TX, Edward Bowman, Boothwyn, PA; three nieces, Rashada L. Jones, Rasha M. Bowman, and Rogetta D. Bowman, all of Columbia, SC; two nephews, Brian Bethea, Columbia, SC and Joshua T. Jones, Camden, SC; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Pastor Ray Shuler and Evangelist Lorraine Shuler for reaching out to Stacey and others whether it was through ministering, and counseling the family. Thank you so much.
