Russell Wendell Simon was born Sunday, February 21, 1954, in Orangeburg County, to the late Mr. Arthur and Mary Simon Kitt. Russell entered eternal rest on September 11, 2023.

At an early age, Russell professed his life to the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. From being a part of the United Methodist Men as well as a Trustee, Russell was an active member of the Shady Grove United Methodist Church. Russell matriculated through the Dorchester County school system, graduating from St. George High School with his diploma, as well as receiving his Associates degree from Trident Technical College.

Employed by Giant Cement Plant for 38 years, Russell became a stakeholder of the company as he became a dedicated employee and joy for all his peers. Russell was also notorious as a prized drag strip racer, having won competitions all over the U.S.

Russell was preceded in death by his sister Pandora Williams, Louise Pryor, Ricky Lee Branch, and Teresa Gallishaw.

Russell leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his children, Lavonne (Randolph) Johnson-Miller, and Troy (Tammie) Johnson both of Summerville, SC, Monnique Elmore (Timothy) of St. George, SC, Tamika Kemp of Jacksonville, FL, and Russell Simon II of Atlanta, GA; his siblings, Cherry Pelzer of Brooklyn, NY, Annie (Isaac) Cato of Bowman, SC, Mary Thompson of Lanham, MD, Jerell (Tamikio) Gallishaw, Terri Gallishaw, Michelle (Phil) Everson, Falisha (Camry) Allen all of Syracuse, NY, Queenie Collum and Sandra Johnson (Matthew) both of Walterboro, SC, and Lakeisha (Jason) Clark of Goose Creek, SC; a special nephew Andre Pryor of Summerville, SC; special cousin Shelia Simon, and Aunt Cherry Simon both of Bowman, SC; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grands and a host of siblings, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
