Rufus McFadden was born on July 5, 1924 in "The Bend
"section of Harleyville, South Carolina and was the
youngest child of the late Christina Henderson and George
McFadden. God called him home on April 6, 2013 in
Covington, GA.

He attended Dorchester County Public Schools. At a
young age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior
and joined the family church, St. Daniel United Methodist
Church. In order to pursue greater dreams and aspirations,
he relocated to New York City.
As a skillful construction worker for over forty years he
helped to build numerous banks and office buildings
throughout Long Island until his retirement.
He was a sharing and helpful person who extended his
generosity to all. He was a man of impeccable taste and
style, a true "Renaissance Man", who appreciated the finer
things in life. He was a loyal friend to many and his
straightforwardness and honesty were valued assest. He
became a faithful and dedicated member of the Bethel
AME Church in Freeport, New York. He served in many
capacities including a trustee, an usher, a culinary specialist
and a pastor's steward. He loved Bethel and could be
found there, daily, with his friend, Brother Brown,
providing upkeep of the church and its facilities. He loved
the Lord and demonstrated his love for God by serving
others at the church, in his neighborhood and schools, and
throughout the community.
Mr. Mac, as he was fondly called, was a dedicated, active and
respected servant. He loved to cook and love good food
especially BBQ and seafood. He was well-known for his ability
to prepare and serve delicious meals in a short amount of time
and enjoyed praise of his meals. He delighted in preparing meals
for huge church gatherings and backyard barbecues and roasting
a pig was his specialty. He was passionate about gardening and
truly possessed a green thumb as he grew all varieties of fruits
and vegetables that he shared with neighbors and friends. The
leaves of some of his collard greens were the size of an elephant.

Rufus relocated to South Carolina in 1997 and was united in
marriage to Beatrice Starnes and they enjoyed spending time,
together, in bible study and discussions about the goodness of the
Lord for sixteen years. He continued to enjoy cooking and they
frequently invited neighbors and friends to share meals. When
"Bea" as he fondly called her, went home to be with God, his
health began to decline. The personal care provided by his niece,
Ernestine and the love and concern of his daughter, Maria, made
each day joyful. Prior to moving to Georgia, Rufus joined the
Word God of Inc.

He was preceded in death by nine siblings, Maggie, Johnny,
Estelle, Alma, George, Adam, Carlisle, Nonia and Trussie; wife,
Johnnye Mae Salley; wife, Beatrice McFadden and son, Roger
Garrett.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Sandra
Hendricks of Harlem, New York and Maria (George) Flint of
Conyers, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Victoria Garrett of New
Mexico; grandchildren, Corey Hendricks, Takia Rice, Anthony
Rice, Roger Garrett and Chandra (Kenan) Crane; six great
grands; one great great grand; seven sisters-in-law; three
brothers-in-law; special nieces, Ernestine (Robert) Williams, Pat
(Lionel) Charthern, Joella Simmons, Annette (Derrick) Sanders,
Altarnese Jones and Brenda Sanders; special neighbors, Johnny
and Joanne Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
extended families and countless friends.
