Mrs. Rosa Mae Williams Burden, daughter of the late Houston and Margaret Lambright Williams was born on July 27, 1943 in Holly Hill, South Carolina. She entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 29, 2014.
Rosa grew up in Holly Hill where she attended Holly Hill Public Schools. She worked and managed Holiday Inn in St. George, SC and later retired from Dorchester School District Two. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Greater Unity AME Church. She served on the Usher Board, Gospel Choir and Sixty Plus. She attended church and Sunday School religiously.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vernette Howell; three sisters, Geneva Sweat, Catherine Williams-Sweatman, and Joyce L. Dunlap and three brothers, Michael Benjamin, Silas "Jimmy" Williams and Isaac Williams.
She leaves fond memories with her husband, Albert L. Burden of Harleyville, SC; one daughter, Beverly Burden of Dorchester, SC; four sons, Reginald Burden of Harleyville, SC, Harry Howell of Newark, NJ, Larry Howell of FL and Anthony "Bill" Williams of Holly Hill, SC; two step children, Elizabeth Burden of Summerville, SC and Albert (Charlene) Burden of Harleyville, SC; eight sisters, Carolyn Heyward of Santee, SC, Jessie Mae Green and Rebecca (Abraham) Bookhart both of Orangeburg, SC, Penny Ann Williams of Holly Hill, SC, Joann Jefferson and Sarah (Eugene) Elmore both of Vance, SC, Barbara Ann Benjamin of Summerville, SC and Jeanett B. Johnson of Boston, MA; two brothers, Jacob Williams of Santee, SC and Retired Sgt. Lavern (Rudine) Bailey of Killeen, TX; 20 grandchildren, eight in which she helped raise; Shannah "Cookie", Devante, Rita, Elijah, Jasmine, Jaylen, Sophia and Sequoyah; 17 great grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Gracie Mae Brown of Harleyville, SC, Pricilla (Anthony) Tyson of Conn., Inger White of GA, Vanessa Williams of St. George, SC and Kim Burden of NC; four brothers-in-law, David Burden, Alex Burden, Sed Burden and Von Burden all of Conn.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
