Obituary

Mrs. Rollie Mae Hicks affectionately known as "Mama Sue" was born on November 7, 1919 in Dorchester County to the late William and Gonease Calhoun.  She departed this life on Friday, June 2, 2023.

She was educated in the public school system of Dorchester County.  At an early age she joined Elem Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the Senior Choir.  She was employed with the Dorchester County Public School as a Food Service Technician.  When she was able, she loved going shopping and fishing.  She also enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Gonease Calhoun; three of her children, Annie Davis, Betty Ann Roberts, and John White, Sr.; three grandchildren, Brenda White, Reginald Davis, and Shufarrel Hicks, and one great grandchild, Zondrea White.

She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving husband, Edward Hicks, Sr.; nine children, Martha White, Geneva (Rutledge) Davis, Edward Hicks, Jr., Louise (Richard) Fields, Theresa Smalls, Harry (Thomasenia) Hicks, John Hicks, Valara (Leroy) James, and Ann (Keith) Smalls; forty-one, seventy-five great grandchildren; twenty-nine great, great grandchildren, with one on the way; five special loved ones, Alfreda Washington, Rev. & Mrs. Bellinger Folk, Jr., Carrie H. Smalls, Willie Mae Johnson, and Mammie Brown; a host of cousins, other relatives, friends and her church family.
