Early Tuesday, July 9, 2013, God whispered to his own Roger "Roy" Owens to enter into eternal rest after a short illness at Trident Medical Center.

Roger "Roy" was born in Harleyville, SC on August 15, 1952 to the late Barney (Rosetta Smith) Owens, Jr. He was the second oldest of six children. He grew up in Harleyville and attended the public schools there. After graduating from Jenkins Hill High School At an early age, Roger "Roy" united himself with Jerusalem United Methodist Church, were he received Christ as his personal savior. He was employed with Westbury for twenty years, until he was forced to give up his work due to illness.

He was a very loving, caring and dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle and friend to all. He was always willing to help others in time of need. He enjoyed singing for the Lord. He was loved by all who knew him and he will truly be missed by all that knew him.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his loving wife Juanita Owens; one son, Roger Owens, Jr. Both of the home; three sisters, Mrs. (James) Amaker, Idella Hankerson and Linda Sims all of Harleyville, SC; two brothers, Herbert (Christine) Owens, Sr. Of Harleyville, SC and Eddie (Annette) Owens of St. George, SC; four aunts, Josephine Pryor of Ridgeville, SC, Anna Bell Smith of Ladson, SC, Carean Harrison of Miami, FL and Alice Scott of Summerville, SC; one uncle, Rev. John (Sara) Smith of Harleyville, SC; special niece, Little Miss Marianna Hill of Harleyville, SC; special friend, Gloria Green of Summerville, SC; father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Curtis (Pastor Clara) Rivers of Harleyville, SC; four sisters-in-law, Sharon James of Harleyville, SC, Tonya Rivers and Angela Wilson both of York, PA, and Josephine Johnson of Summerville, SC; four brothers-in-law, Tony Rivers, Melvin Johnson both of York, PA, Grant Johnson of NY, NY and Dino Johnson of Summerville, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
