St. George

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Lee Gilliard, 78, of Saint George, South Carolina, on February 1, 2025. He was born on October 30, 1946.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie Sr. and Mattie Mae Gilliard; his wife, Vivian Holman Gilliard; his son, Robert Lee Gilliard Jr.; his sisters, Margie Gilliard and Bertha Mae Seward; and his brothers, Jervy Gilliard and Franklin Gilliard.

Robert was known for his kind and gentle spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a love for nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors

landscaping. After retiring from Georgia Pacific, where he worked for 30 years, he spent most of his time cooking. On February 14, 2002, Robert married the love of his life, Mrs. Vivian Holman Gilliard. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Robert is survived by his children: Donald (Zelda) Fuller, Estelle (Daniel) James, Ruthie Bailey, Kenrell Holman, and Jolesia Holman; his brothers, Sammie (Jannie Mae) Gilliard and Will Tee (Helen) Gilliard; and his sister, Mary (Haynes) Bradley.

He is also survived by his extended family: brothers-in-law: Mr. James Holman Jr., Mr. McCray Holman, Mr. Herman (Harriett) Holman, John Clay Holman and Vernon Hallmon; his sisters-in-law: Mrs. Willie Mae Polly and Mrs. Martha Mae Brown; his godson, Raymond (Tonya) Elmore; special nieces, Nancy Brown and Marian Brown; and a special great nephew, Elijah Johnson.

Additionally, he leaves behind two special sons, Richard Lee Holman and Keshawn Robinson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.

His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many others whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived and for the profound impact he had on those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
