Deacon Paul Cobbs, Jr., the oldest son of the late Paul Cobbs, Sr. and the late Wilhelmenia Robinson Cobbs, peacefully slipped into eternal rest at his residence on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.  Deacon Cobbs was born on February 13, 1936.

Paul, as he was known to many, attended the public schools of Dorchester County. He was a 1958 graduate of Williams Memorial High School. On October 19, 1962, he married his high school sweet heart, true love and faithful companion, Shirley Smith. This union was blessed with three adorable children-Paul Richard, Andre', and daddy's little girl, Skyller.

At an early age, he became a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in St. George, SC. He was a faithful member and served his church in many capacities until his health declined. He served as a member of the Trustee Board, Senior Choir, the Naomi Marshall Choir, the SB
Marshall Male Choir, Deacon Board, Circle Number One and as Treasurer of Good Hope Baptist Church. Paul was always humble and approachable.

Paul knew his role as the head of his family and he took pride in providing for his family. He worked at Piggly Wiggly in St. George, SC for over 20 years. In the early 1980's, he became employed with Dorchester County Public Works and remained there until he retired in 1999.
He was always a faithful and dedicated employee that believed in following the rules and protocol of his employers.

Paul was a trailblazer and pillar in the community. He was always available to give good sound advice to family and friends. He will truly be missed by his loving family, his church family and the surrounding communities.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Willie C. Cobbs and James Cobbs, two sisters, Mary C. Primus and Rose M. Smoaks.

He leaves to cherish his many precious memories: his loving and devoted wife, Shirley S. Cobbs of the home; two devoted sons, Paul Richard (Operadella) Cobbs, St. George, SC and Andre' Cobbs, Huntersville, NC; a loving and devoted daughter, Skyller Cobbs, Huntersville,
NC; five grandchildren, Da'shon (Darrell) Cooper, Opera D. Cobbs, Karisha Cobbs, Paulvonda D. Cobbs and Kameron Glover who was reared in the home; honorary grandchild, Kyheim Lemon; two great grandchildren, Kristian Cobbs and Autumn Cooper; a special nephew raised like a brother, Mitchell Paul (April) Cobbs, Columbia, SC; four sisters-in-law, Virginia D. Daniels, Elizabeth Cobbs, Althenia Cobb and Dixie (Deacon Miley, Jr.) Britt all of St. George, SC; brother-in-law, Hie Rogers (Marian) Smith, Lancaster, SC; three close friends, John Clay Britt, Leonard Lincoln and Ezekiel Haynes; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
