On Tuesday evening, November 13, 2012, Mrs. Octavia Hodges Hudson transitioned into eternal rest following a brief illness. She was the seventh child born to the George and Queenie Jones Hodges on October 24, 1924 in Smoaks, South Carolina.

She was educated in the public schools of Colleton County. At an early age she united with Bethel U.M. Church in Smoaks, South Carolina.

Octavia was joined in holy matrimony to John Henry Hudson of Ruffin, South Carolina. To this union one child was born. From Smoaks, South Carolina, the couple made the transition to begin their lives in Brooklyn, New York.

She retired from New York City Department of Education's Food Service after thirty-two years of service.

Octavia was a faithful member of Mt. Ollie Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, where she served under the leadership of her former pastors; the late Reverend R.D. Brown, Reverend Spurgeon Crayton and her current pastor Reverend Reginald Lee Bachus. She was a faithful member of the R.D. Brown Chorus and a long time member of the scholarship committee under the Jane Goodwin Foundation. She loved to encourage and support the youth. She was always willing to help wherever she could. With her, things were done with a lot of class.
