Obituary

Nathaniel Simmons was born in Dorchester County on February 28, 1947, to the late Ben Jr. Simmons and Corrie Stevens Simmons.  He entered heaven's gates on Saturday, September 3, 2022.

He attended the public schools of Dorchester County.  He was a member of New Grace United Methodist Church, formerly St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Nathaniel started his working career in the fields working with his father.  His first job was at the Tootsie Roll Factory in New Jersey.  Shortly afterwards, he married the late Clarine Jennings Simmons and this union was blessed with four children.

He later went to work for Asplundh Tree Company, which later changed their name to Utilities Construction Company.  He worked for those companies for many years.  Some years later, he decided he wanted to work for himself and began work installing septic tanks and next, stump grinding.

He was known by many as the stump grinder and the man with all the jokes.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories with five children, Richard Simmons, Darrell (Tammy) Ravenell, Rickey Simmons, Rosetter Simmons and Marina Simmons; nine grandchildren, Lamar Simmons, Brandon Ravenell, Zaunce Simmons, Quadrey Simmons, Iveoatae Livingston, Bryce Ravenell, Brittany Ravenell, Zanyah Simmons, and Jaiden Simmons; four great grandchildren, Kaylee Simmons, Skylar Simmons, Londyn Livingston and Kario Livingston; his siblings, Ben Stevens, Jr., Annie Lee (Tommy) Dereef, Clarence (Clayrene) Simmons, Carl (Gladys Ele') Simmons, Johnnie C.
