Obituary

Myzine Britt Primus Guess was born October 12, 1924 to the late Robert Britt and Della Louise Cook Britt Hayes in St. George, S.C. She was the eldest child of seven children and was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County where she excelled in math and reading.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized as a member of St. Mark Baptist Church in the Texas Community, where she served in several capacities for many years until her health declined. She loved her church and Pastor Britt (a cousin) until the end.

Myzine married her first love, Peter Primus, in July 1941 to which six children were born. Mr. Primus predeceased her in 1976. She was blessed to find love again when she met and married Earnest Guess in 1984 and enjoyed her time with him until his death in 1987. To That union, she gained a daughter, Annette Guess Johnson. Myzine was a strong independent woman and an advocate for speaking up and righting a wrong when she thought there had been an injustice. She was not shy about letting you know where she stood on issues. As only Bowie (nickname) could do, she commanded your attention and respect.

She was the matriarch of a wonderful family and was honored as such in that role. During her illness, her sister, Fannie Kearney, was by her side offering to provide what she wanted. Along with her daughters, her nieces, Mattie Toomer Wolf, and Evelyn Hayes Smith made sure she was well cared for. Grandchildren, other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends loved her as well and catered to her with calls, cards, and visits. They usually had a gift in hand, smiles, and great conversation with her on a variety of topics. She enjoyed these occasions immensely and looked forward to the next time.

Myzine will forever be cherished by many as indicated by the huge celebration of her 98th birthday on October 12th. The family and the community embraced her with an outpouring of love in so many ways. She was truly overwhelmed by the generosity.

She was predeceased by: her sons; Johnnie Primus, Lewis Primus, Rev. Robert Primus; grandsons: Rederick (Sid) Primus and Shoundel Primus; a daughter-in-law, Pearline Primus; four brothers, and a sister; step-daughter, Annette Johnson. She leaves a tremendous legacy to her daughters: Angie Syphrett (James); Mary Jones (Maurice); Beverly Jackson (Nathaniel); grandchildren: Jeffery Primus, Ryan Syphrett, Winard Syphrett, Elba Dionne Pinckney, Dr. Ashley Primus, MD, Dr. Nicholas Chavis, PT., Twelve great grandchildren; six great, great grandchildren; godson, Garrie Britt; She will be sorely missed by her beloved sister, Fannie Kearney; caring sisters: Pretto Webb, and Betty Bey; special cousins Little Dot and Ike Britt; sisters-in-law: Annie Lee Britt and Christine Primus. She also will be remembered by her daughter-in-law Mary Alice Primus, dedicated family members Heyward Primus & family and Theodore Britt & family, and a host of other relatives and family.

Myzine lived a long and interesting life. Her legacy will be celebrated for years to come.
