Our precious Margaret Britt Stokes lived beyond the promised three score years and ten, and for that we are very grateful to God. Having her in the life of our family for 96 years is a blessing.

She was born in a household of faith to the parentage of Viola Brothers Britt and Cal Britt in the Texas Community. Margaret was the youngest of six siblings: Fletcher, Miley, Arrie, and Grace. She was very young when her mother passed away. Cal realized his daughter needed a mother and he married Emmaline Lewis. To Margaret's big surprise she would happily become a big sister to Bessie Ruth. Her parents,
siblings, and infant sister, Nell Rose all preceded her in death.

Margaret attended Williams Memorial School and was the class of 1949. She was a lifetime resident of the Texas/St. George Community. She accepted Christ and was baptized in the faith of believers of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until her health declined. She served on the usher board, nurse s guild, and was recently appointed to the mother's board.

Margaret was married to Jack Stokes and their union was blessed with a son, Larry Gene Stokes. Both have also preceded her in death.

Although most of her life was spent as a homemaker, Margaret was employed in the health care industry for many years.

Margaret was generous, loving, and kind. Family meant the world to her. It was no surprise when she became a mother to an adorable baby girl she named Iris Darlene. She provided everything a child needed in a stable environment.

Margaret is remembered as a confidant to her nieces and nephews-the aunt you could share anything with. She never took sides, but gave the best advice she was capable of. It was always exciting to stay in "town" with Aunt Margaree. " Whenever she knew family was coming home (St. George) to visit, one could always count on the favorite meal of rutabagas, mac and cheese, rice, fried chicken wings and corn bread. She was
witty, joyful and expressed sincere excitement when anyone achieved or accomplished one of life's goals.

She opened her home to many who needed a place of rest, and to those who needed a hand up. She loved children and if possible, would save the world. Late in life she developed a fondness for a young boy, named Darius "Dee" Williams. She nurtured and taught him the best she could, always encouraging him to honor God.

There are so many wonderful memories we will retain of our momma, our queen, grandma, aunt, "Nuggi", "Tomma", "Poopoo"; and until the Lord reunites us we will cherish those with a smile.

Margaret is survived by a daughter: Iris (Samuel) Rhett of Jacksonville. FI: six grandchildren: Tori (Rodney) Riley of St. George, SC (whom she reared in the home as her own. Samuel Akeem Rhett of Jacksonville, FL, LaTrell ( Latina) Stokes of Orangeburg, SC, Shaneka Rhett of Jacksonville, FL, Monica (Anthony) Rankins of Dothan, AL, and Tr-Shy (Tierrah) Rhett, Sr. of Jacksonville. FL; eight great-grands: Jalen Rankins, Ethan Stokes, JaNayah Stokes, Jordan Stokes. Demetria & Shanetria Riley, London Rhett. and Tr-Shy Rhett, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Clara D. Britt and Bernell Murray: nieces and nephews: Virgil (Kim), Miley, Jr. (Dixie), Robert, Rose, Gloria, Pat (Jasper), Jenny (Joe) Deloris (David), Flo (Leamon) Alvin (Karen), Josey (Mac), Alexander, Mitchell, Milton (Casandra), Sharon (Herman), Sylvester, Jeffery (Keli), Samuela (Prince), Alan and Gregory; and numerous great, great-great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is also survived by a special god-son, Darius Williams; two god-grands: Ericka Hezekiah and Teaceshia Britt who was a part of her healthcare team at St. George Health Care Center; a very special neighbor Beverly Brothers, who thought of her as a sister; and all of those who've made her life a little sweeter.
