Mitchell Darrell Lewis, the third child of Bessie Ruth Britt Lewis and Amos Lewis, was born May 30, 1957 in St. George, SC.

Mitchell was an infant when his parents and siblings relocated to Titusville, FL, for a chance of a better life. They later moved a little north to the nearby town of Mims, where Mitchell would grow up and attend the Brevard County Public Schools. He was a member of the wrestling team and graduated from Astronaut High School. After graduation he attended college in Tyler, Texas.

During his formative years, Mitchell played baseball along with his brothers at Mims Little League. There was always excitement in the Lewis household during baseball season. He also was taught fishing skills by his father.

He was fortunate to be raised in a Christian home, and during a time where the community was your village. He attended the Mims Church of God and was a faithful member of the Sunday school until departing for higher education.

After a year in college, Mitchell returned home. The mischievous practical joker had somehow changed, and our parents never received a satisfactory response as to what happened to their son. Through many years of counseling, various doctors, psychologists and medications, it never brought our Mitchell back to us. His life was met with many challenges, fighting his own demons, and others who took advantage of his giving heart. Through it all we never gave up, loving and supporting him through the process.

He is remembered for quoting scripture to us, and before hanging up after a phone call, he would remind us, "It's all about Jesus. " Before he partook of a meal, he would quote a scripture and then pray, much to the annoyance of others waiting to eat. This didn't bother him a bit! He's also remembered as being a good "story" teller and we'd have to decipher what part was believable or not. We hope others will learn from his good heart in the purest of ways. He never sought to bring harm to anyone.

On Thursday, August 31, 2023, our greatest concern became a reality and the death angel entered our family's rank again. Even in our grief, we believe our Mitchell has finally found peace with the Heavenly Father.

He was preceded in death by a devoted mother who loved him unconditionally, a supportive father, and his older brother, Kenneth; grandparents, Archie and Mary Jane Lewis, Cal and Emmaline Britt, Julius and Rannie Phillips; aunts/uncles, Louella (Robert) Black, Juanita (Solomon) Williams, Shirley (Frank) Britt, Frankie Phillips, Morris Phillips, Fletcher (Marion) Britt, Miley (Clara) Britt, Sr., Arrie Britt, Grace Tobin, Margaret Stokes and Robert Felder.

His legacy will continue through his son, Jonathan Terrell (Felicia) Gillyard; his three granddaughters, Simone, Tykeria, and Kiera; great granddaughter, Alammi Malik; loving siblings, Deloris Lewis-Ray (David Ferguson), Amos M (Casandra) Lewis; special sister, Janice Carmichael; aunts/uncles, D,: Clara D. Britt, Jeremiah (Martha) Phillips, James (Penny) Kelly, Woodrow Edwards, Vernell Elliott, Bernadette Samuels, and Ret. Col. Edward Felder; nieces/nephews: Wendy Ray, Micheal (Toni) James, Amory James, Rhea Ray, Rontavious Lewis, Nishelle Lewis, Chantal Sherrod, Brooke (C. J) Watts­ Spruell, Brandy and Beautair Lyons, Carlos and Azariah Carmichael; several devoted and loving cousins, great nieces and nephews and god sisters.
