Michael Vernon
Moses, Sr.
Oct 17, 1972 — Feb 23, 2022
Marion
Michael Vernon Moses, the youngest of two sons born to his parents, the Reverend Frank M. and Dorothy Johnson Moses, was born October 17, 1972, in Marion, South Carolina. From birth, Michael was curious, energetic, mischievous, and daring. As the son of an AME minister, he lived in several cities in South Carolina. His education began in Kingstree, South Carolina, but the family returned to Marion where Michael attended the schools in Marion District One. He enjoyed playing basketball while in high school. He graduated from Marion High School and attended Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina. He later moved to New Jersey and Baltimore, Maryland before returning to Marion.
While living in the North, Michael pursued an interest in culinary arts and worked in several restaurants. After returning to Marion, Michael along with his silent partner (his mother) opened a local eatery where his customers enjoyed his delicious foods until the store closed. Even after the closing of the store, many of his friends hired him to prepare his specialty dishes for their events.
Michael enjoyed spending time with his friends, and his enjoyment could be heard all over the neighborhood when he was getting his point across. Whether he was right or wrong, Michael had the last word because he was always Right. Since his friends loved him, they reluctantly gave in and allowed him to believe he was Right.
Michael attended Saint John AME Church. Even though Michael lived fifty-one years, he enjoyed every minute of his life. He lived his life- his way- without apologies or regrets. As the youngest child, Michael was his mother's "pride and joy" and his father's "sacrificial love".
Michael was preceded in death by his big brother, Carey Anthony Moses. His greatest joys were his children- Michael Vernon Moses, Jr. of the home; Carey Anthony Moses, a student at Benedict College in Columbia, SC; Jahwon Reaves, Dillon, SC; Mercedz Hope, Marion, SC; Tyliq Moses, Kenyon Moses, and Asia Moses, Baltimore, Maryland; Latisha Brown, Nashville, Tennessee and nine grandchildren. In addition to his children, Michael leaves his parents, the Reverend Frank M. (Gladys) Moses of Saint George, SC; his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Johnson Hemingway (Jeremiah) of Brittons Neck, SC; a nephew like a son, Joey Drayton, Florence, SC; step brothers, Savarius Gardner (Takea), Saint George, SC; Darrin A. Gardner (Kewanda), Columbia, SC; Terrence Hemingway, Chatham, Virginia; his aunts, Lillie Ree Moses, Columbia, SC; Amy Johnson Jackson, Columbia, SC; Brenda J.
