Mr. Melvin M. Haynes was born on August 31, 1957 to the late Horace and Mary Lee Warren Haynes in Dorchester County. He departed this life on October 16, 2009, at Providence Northeast Hospital in Columbia, SC.
At an early age, he joined St. Mark Baptist Church where he was a faithful member of the young adult choir. Melvin graduated from Harleyville-Ridgeville High School in Dorchester County. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army. Upon leaving the military, he worked at Exxon Chemicals for many years. After leaving Exxon, he went on to truck driving school to pursue a career in driving trucks. Melvin was a truck driver for many years.
In the early 1980's , Melvin united in marriage with Della Miller. This union was blessed with three adorable children—Daniel, Melvin, Jr., and Quintessa.
Melvin was preceded in death by one sister—Deloris Zeigler, one brother—John Brothers and one nephew—Woodrow Brothers.
Melvin leaves to cherish precious memories: his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Della Miller Haynes; three sons, Daniel (Tamitra) Haynes of Jedburg, SC, Melvin S. Haynes, Jr. of Pregnall, SC, and Rusty Zeigler of Albany, NY; two daughters, Quintessa (Kevin) Johnson of Goose Creek, SC and
Konosha Zeigler of Pregnall, SC; three grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Leon) Salley of Lincolnville, SC, and Mary Lou (Eddie) Bryant of Greenville, SC; two brothers, Benny Haynes and Horace Haynes, Jr. both of Pregnall, SC; three aunts, six sisters-in-law, Ruth Jordan, Deborah Brothers, Esther Miller-Moultrie, Edna Miller-Johnson, Betty (Roscoe) Pringle, Blanche Syphers, one brother-in-law, Clary (Yvonne) Miller, Jr.; closely devoted nieces and nephews, Ronald (Donnetta) Zeigler, Sherry Newton, Lula (Tony) Wilson, Regina (Curtis) Gibbs, Lawerence, Maryann, Darrell, Tabitha, Lashauna, Kim, Onea (Howard) Brown; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
