Maye Hodges was born February 16, 1922, St. George, SC. He was the son of the late Annie Jenkins and the late Mattie (Mamie) Hodges. He was the second oldest of six siblings. Three of which preceded him in death-Cleve Hodges, Sinclair Hodges, and Annie Mae Addison-Plummer.
Maye Hodges grew up in St. George, SC. He was united in holy matrimony to the late Louise Collier Hodges for over forty years. This union was blessed with four children and one step daughter. Maye was a World War II Veteran. Maye was a very faithful member of St. Peters United Methodist Church which became New Grace United Methodist Church after the merger. Maye served on many auxiliaries and in many capacities until his health failed. He was a diligent worker on the Trustee Board, a member of the Male Chorus, and faithfully maintained the church grounds. Upon returning from war, he was employed at Fralix Savage yard as a mechanic, where he retired. Maye was one of the oldest left in his community. He was well respected by all as granddaddy or "Mr. Maye".
Maye Hodges will be sorrowfully mourned and forever cherished by; his daughters, Gertie Stokes, Frances (Nathaniel) Riley and Christenia Hodges; one son Edward Hodges all of St. George, SC; a step-daughter Ruby Stephens of Columbia, SC; a granddaughter whom he reared in his home, Roxanne Hodges of St. George, SC, and a grandson Eric (Evelyn) Hodges of Holly Hill, SC; grandchildren: Sharon Hunt of Charlotte, NC, Ronald Riley, of St. George, SC, Denise (Rodney Murray) of St. George, SC, Rondell (Melissa) Hodges, of St. George, SC, Rainey (Moses) Riley-White of St. George, SC, Ron Hodges of St. George, SC, Latandra Hodges of St. George, SC, Millie (Dennis) Johnson of Rowesville, SC, Shanika Riley of Marietta, Georgia, and Angela Hodges of St. George, SC; one grandchild preceded him in death, John Hunt III; one brother Leroy (Dorothy) Hodges of St. George, SC; one sister Georgia Mae Hymes of Palo Alto, CA; 15 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
