Matthew Jakeem Dacus, affectionately known to many as "Matt" and others as "Brown" of 140 Gant Rd. Reevesville, SC entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 1, 2026. He was born on June 15, 1991, in Manhattan, New York to the late Matthew Henry and the late Mary Etta Dacus.

Matthew was educated in the public school system of Dorchester County, graduating from Woodland High School in the class of 2010. Matt had a love for sports during his middle and high school years where he played basketball and football. He furthered his education at WyoTech, a trade school in Pennsylvania where he picked up several automotive and technical trades to include collision and refinishing technology.

With fishing as his passion, he always made time to find a "honey hole" with the Swamp Boys at any pond they could cast their lines in. He also had a love for dirt bikes and motorcycles where he and his friends would casually ride along. Matt was employed with Billy's Tire in St. George, SC for many years. He also worked with Sportsman Boats in Summerville, SC and Key West Boats in Ridgeville, SC. His careers at both tailored to his love for water and fishing. His favorite pastime was spending time with his beautiful girls along with his family and friends.

Matthew was preceded in death by his parents Matthew Henry and Mary Etta Dacus; his maternal grandparents Paul and Etta Perry Dacus; uncles, DeWayne Dacus, Jeremiah Dacus, Willie Perry, Ulysses Perry and Gary Primus; aunts, Eileen Brown and Pauline Dacus Lewis.

He leaves to cherish his precious and fond memories to his loving daughters; Lyric Dacus and Summer Dacus of St. George, SC, his god-son; Tristan Jamison of Reevesville SC; his adoptive mother, Rosetta (Louis) Cokley of the home, a caring step-mom, Nancy Henry; three sisters, Kathleen Henry and Nakisha Henry both of New York, Roshanda (Shawn) Taylor or St. George, SC; two brothers Steadman Cokley of St. George, SC and Salvador Frazier of New York; three aunts Barbara Moore, Cynthia Primus both of Reevesville SC; and Sylvia Primus of Manhattan, NY; an uncle Charles (Liz) Dacus of Manning, SC. four nieces, Keshawnda and Kalani Taylor of St. George, SC, Londyn Dacus of Beaufort, SC and Kylee Henry of New York; two nephews, Kylen and Kingston Taylor of St. George, SC. A special friend, Sharon (Journee) Williams of Dorchester, SC; his best friend, Travis Neals of St George SC and the entire Neals family; a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and many friends that he held near and dear to his heart.
