Mother Mary Lee Goodwine was born June 27, 1938, in Dorchester County, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Mose and Annie Lee Thompson. On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, she entered eternal rest after an extended illness.
She attended the public schools of Dorchester County. At an early age she joined Harvey Chapel Baptist Church in St. George, SC. Upon moving to Brooklyn, New York she attended Brooklyn Tabernacle Church. She was a faithful member of the Usher Board. She graduated from Tabernacle Bible School. She was a true woman of God. She enjoyed fellowshipping with her church family. Once returning to South Carolina, she joined Church for All People and Nations under the leadership of her brother, Reverend Richard Thompson. She served as the mother of the church. She enjoyed fellowshipping at various churches in the community. She truly enjoyed singing and praising God.
Mary worked in many capacities while living in New York. She worked as a Home Health Care Provider. She also worked for the Food Service Department for the Board of Education in Brooklyn, New York.
Mary enjoyed reading books especially about angels. She had a true passion for mystery novels and mystery movies. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends to make them laugh. She enjoyed bringing laughter to those who were around her.
She married Eugene Reed. To this union one son was born. Later in life she met and married Charlie Goodwine.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Goodwine; six brothers, JB, William, Will, Marvin, Rev. Richard and Carlie Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her son Glenn Reed of Atlanta, GA; one grandson, Donelle Reed of Queens, NY; one granddaughter, Savannah Reed of VA; one sister, Caroline Stevens; two sisters-in-law, Rosa Lee Thompson and Linda Mitchell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
