Mrs. Mary Cooper Cobbs Primus, born December 10, 1934 to the late Paul and Wilhelmenia Cobbs, departed this life on Friday, January 3, 2020 in Lithonia, GA.  Mary Cooper was born in St. George, SC, where she grew up in the St. George Community and attended the public schools of Dorchester County.

Mary Cooper was united in Holy matrimony to the late Jethro Primus for almost forty years before he died.  To this union they were blessed with two children.

At an early age Mary Cooper joined the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church and served as a member of Missionary Circle #3.  After relocating to New York she joined Wayside Baptist Church and then Brownsville Community Church.   After returning to South Carolina, he joined Bethel Baptist Church then Temple Zion Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the deaconess Board and sang on the Jubliee Choir.

During Mary Cooper's stay in New York she attended Brooklyn College.  She also worked as a paraprofessional for the NYC School System.  Upon returning to South Carolina Mary Cooper worked for several years in Richland School District One's Grandmother's Program.

Mary Cooper was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie C. Cobbs and James Cobbs; one sister, Rose Marie Smoaks.

She leaves to cherish her memories:  a son, Gary O'Neal Primus of Lithonia, GA; a daughter, Glenda Maxine Primus of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren, one special grandson reared in the home, Lance Primus, Travelle Donte Primus and Sahnia Tira Primus of Atlanta, GA; two great grandchildren, Quincy & Quest Primus; a daughter-in-law, Gail Primus of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Paul (Shirley) Cobbs, Jr. of St. George, SC; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Cobbs of St. George, SC; Bessie Anderson of NYC and Marynell Stewart of NYC; a special family friend, Loretta Valazquez; special cousins, Barbara Kelly of St. George, SC, Sandra Butler of Georgia, Annie Mae Pinckney of Virginia, Bernice Britt, Brenda Britt and Vanessa Perry of Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
