Obituary

When God calls one of his children to dwell with him above, we mortals sometimes question the wisdom of His love. Knowing this is difficult; somehow we must try, because the saddest word we know will always be goodbye. To have, to love and then part is one of the greatest sorrows on one's heart.

In the stillness of the morning on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, South Carolina, God sent his angels for Sis. Mary Josette Britt Byrd. She was born July 12, 1967, in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late Israel (Bubba) Britt and Mary Bradley Britt.

Josette attended and graduated from St. George High School. After graduating from high school, Josette proceeded on to Orangeburg Technical College, where she obtained her Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education.  She was most recently employed as a Home Health Care Aid for several clients in and around the community. Loving God the way she did, she attended Life in the Word Holiness Church, Cope, SC; where she was a part of the Choir and Praise and Worship Team, under the leadership of Pastor Gladys Busby.

Josette enjoyed church, singing, bowling, mentoring, traveling and spending as much time as possible with family. She was one of the most down to earth, joyful, loving, caring and selfless people one could meet. She LOVED GOD and encouraged every family member, friend and associate to draw near to our savior and to get their own personal relationship with God. Her family was her world. Her smile was infectious and one that could brighten any room. She always had an encouraging word for anyone she met. She touched the hearts of many through her praise and worship ministry.

On August 31, 1995, she was joined in holy matrimony to Ernest L. Byrd. She was a devoted mother to five beautiful children; Tanjeneka Williams, Isreal Williams, Mashayah Davis, Dwayne Byrd, and Joshua Byrd.

She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted husband Ernest L. Byrd; Her five loving children; one grandchild, Camyrion (Tre) Gardner; Her mother, Evangelist Mary Britt, one sister, Linda C. Davis and one brother, Robert L. Britt. Her brothers-in-law, Saul (Glorianne) Byrd, Jr., Jonathan (Gina) Byrd, Christopher (Dora) Byrd, Jasper Byrd, John Byrd and Joe Byrd; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Byrd; host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Deep in our heart lies a picture of a loved one laid to rest. In memory's frame we shall keep it because she was one of the best. The flowers we place on her grave will wither and decay, but our love for her will never fade away.
