Born into a loving home, Martha Ann Summers entered this world January 2, 1959 in Reevesville, SC. She was the lovely daughter of the late Calloway Summers, Jr. and the late Martha Lee Summers. She was the granddaughter of the late Calloway, Sr. and the late Lunnie Bell Summers and the late Frank and the late Emma Lee Rivers.
She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the St. Matthew Baptist Church, Reevesville, SC under the pastorate of the late Rev. David John Jones. She served faithfully on the St. Matthews Baptist Young Adult Choir until after she graduated from college.

Martha grew up in the community of her birth and was educated in the Dorchester County School System and graduated a year early from St. George High in 1976. She continued her extracurricular activities with the class of 1977. Upon graduation, Martha furthered her education by attending Claflin College, Orangeburg, SC for one year. After which, Martha transferred to Benedict College in Columbia, SC graduating in May 1980 where she double majored in Business Administration and Economics and received a Bachelor of Science degree.

In 1984 Martha gave birth to a baby girl, Gekeyah Martisha Coleen Summers who was the apple of Martha's eye.

Long after graduating from Benedict College, Martha became a member of Temple Zion Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Dr. James T. Montgomery where she served faithfully on the Temple Zion Mass Choir as the Vice President. She later became a member of a gospel group, "The Willing Vessels" of Columbia, SC until her health failed.

Martha was employed by Fort Jackson AAFES Exchange PX and Blue Cross Blue Shield until she retired due to failing health. Martha loved to sing, travel, sew, eat good food and help others. She loved interacting with people and family.

On Thursday, July 16, 2015 Martha was called into eternal rest. Martha is survived by her loving daughter/caretaker, Gekeyah Martisha Coleen Summers; one granddaughter, Jalaysia Land of Columbia, SC; one brother, Franklin (Omega) Summers; two sisters, Jereleen (Johnny) Pugh of Columbia, SC and Cocynthia Rena (James) Mack of Cocoa, FL; first cousin like a sister, Jacquelyn Brown of St. George, SC; one godson, Nicholas Brown of Summerville, SC; four aunts, Gerthell Brown of Brooklyn, NY, Annie Rivers of Orangeburg, SC, Martha Rivers of Walterboro, SC and Mattie M. Summers of St. George, SC; one uncle, Robert Rivers of Federalsburg, MD; four nephews; five nieces; fourteen great nephews; six great nieces; one great great nephew; her devoted friends/classmates, Vickie (Leroy, Jr.) Heyward, Vernessa (Vernon) White and Margaret Black all of St. George, SC, Eliza Edwards of Newman, GA and Linda Allen of Bronx, NY; a host of devoted cousins, other relatives and friends.
