Deacon Louis Stewart, departed this life on Tuesday morning, November 10, 2009 at St. George Health Care Center. He was born in Dorchester County on April 6, 1926, to the late Morris and Messeniah Lee Green Stewart. He was the fourth of nine children. Four preceded him in death.

Deacon Stewart was joined in marriage to Mable Sanders. This union was blessed with three children.

Deacon Stewart attended the public schools of Dorchester County. He joined the U.S. Army in 1945. After leaving the military, he worked at J.P. Stevens for many years until his health failed.

Deacon Stewart received Christ in his life at an early age at Bethel #2 Holiness Church on the Wire Road. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1948. Deacon Stewart served the church in many capacities — he was head Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School and a choir member. He was very diligent and faithful in fulfilling his duties until his health declined. He loved the word of God and knew his bible scriptures well. He loved his church and his church family.

Deacon Stewart will truly be missed by his family and church family.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his beloved wife, Evangelist Mother Mable Sanders Stewart of the home; one son, Louis (Albertia) Stewart of Brooklyn, New York; two daughters, Evangelist Erma L (Pastor James) Frazier and Evangelist Lizzie Stewart both of Reevesville, SC; a God-son, Minister John Green of Orangeburg, SC; five grandchildren, Gregory (Jametta) Stewart of Columbia, SC, Duane Lett of Brooklyn, New York, James Frazier of Charlotte, NC, Lavoris Frazier of Orangeburg, SC and Tonya Coaxum of St. George, SC; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan, Gage, Caleb, Brendalyn, Tiffany, Madison and Tyler; three sisters, Lottie M. Carlise of Kentucky, Dorothy Martin of Queens, New York and Mary Shinn of Reevesville, SC; one brother, Reverend Joseph Stewart of St. George, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
