Obituary

Louis W. (Sonny) Britt departed this life on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at his home after a brief illness.

Louis was born December 26, 1925 in (Texas Community) St. George, SC to the late William and Susie Britt. He was the fourth child of fifteen children. He joined the Navy and fought in World War II. Upon his completion of service, Louis met and married Berneatha Brothers on January 8, 1949. To this union seven children were born.

Louis moved to New York early in his marriage to make a better life for his family. He worked in construction as a pipe fitter and laborer for Carson and Reed and Henderson Brothers. He retired from the Construction Union Local 1298 at the age of 52. Louis was the bread winner for his family which allowed his wife Berneatha to be a homemaker.

After his retirement Louis' children decided he needed something to do. So they found him a job as a security guard. His first assignment was located at Great American Parking Lot where he often took his grandson (Anton). One other location was C& D Batteries where his daughter (Vanessa) worked. His daughter always checked his paperwork for him.

Louis always had a side job to supplement his income. He always said, "if I don't have a job I can make a job." He often took his son Richard when he did his backyard and cellar cleaning jobs.

Louis was a member Chapter 161 in Port Jervis, New York. He loved to work with his hands. He was not afraid of hard work. He always encouraged his kids to "Get an Education and do better than him".

Louis was preceded in death by one son, Richard Lee Britt, four sisters, Mary Henderson, Betha Britt, Jesse Mae Young and Emma Lee Dixion and one brother, Henry Charles Britt.
