Sister Lillie Mae Johnson affectionately known as Mama Lillie was born December 28, 1934 to the late Lemuel and Jestine Inabinett.

Lillie received her education in the Dorchester Public School System.  She gave her life to God at an early age and remained faithful until God gave her rest on April 6, 2022.

She moved to New Jersey where she met and married the love of her life, Paul Johnson.  They resided in East Orange, New Jersey for many years. They raised their three children Don Jose, Paul Leon and Tracey Denise in East Orange.

Lillie continued her Christina journey by joining Ephesians Baptist Church that would later become New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church.  She served on the usher board, Nurses and Deaconess boards and sung with the choir.

Active in the community, she was one of the oldest members of East Orange Senior Center.  She also enjoyed memberships on the bowling, swimming and exercise teams.  She was one of thirty-three original members of the East Orange Treasurer's Chapter of the RED Hat Society.

She received her certification as a Master Gardner from Rutgers University School of Agriculture.

She used her gardening skills and enjoyed a huge garden with her partner in soil and dear, dear friend, Gloria Conley, there they grew just about everything.

Mama Lillie returned to South Carolina in 2016 and joined Greater St. Paul AME Church.  She was a faithful attendee of bible study, Sunday school and morning worship services.

Lillie was preceded in death by her husband of almost fifty years, Paul Johnson; son, Paul Leon Johnson; grandson, Arjuna Paul; three brothers, Franklin, George T. and Orlando; three sisters, Ella, Joyce and Margaret; in-laws, nieces, and nephews that have gone on before her.

Lillie leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter and caregiver, Tracey Johnson Paige (Ronnie); her son, Don Jose Johnson (Carla); one sister, Loretta Simmons (Arthur Jackson); two brothers-in-law, Quitie and W.T. Johnson; one sister-in-law, Marcella Torbit; grandchildren, Marcus Oliantus, Joshua, Dontae, and Daya Johnson; great grandchildren, Amir, Ali, Shanee and Julian; a host of bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren; Aunt Lillie was loved by all her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.  Her church family will truly miss her bright spirit.

Mama Lillie made friends where ever she went.  She had two bonus sisters, Jackie McKnight and Francis Barnes both of Newark, NJ.  She had many bonus sons and daughters that loved her to pieces.
