Born 74 years ago in St. George , SC, Leroy was the youngest child of the late Wash and Elma Lewis Williams . He was reared in the Texas Community and tended the local community school.

Leroy or Roy , a son, brother , surrogate father, uncle, cousin and friend , whose purpose in life was to lend a helping hand. He rarely used the word " no" but was favored with a response of " yeah" or I'll do it. " Compensation was not his priority , Leroy just enjoyed helping people whether it was grinding cane, picking peanuts, dissing a field, mowing grass or chauffeuring.

He developed a love of travel at a young age as his parents moved from various states struggling to support the family. It would be many years later when he realized the moves were not adventures, but for a better way of life.

Leroy accepted Christ at an early age and united with Bethel Baptist Church in the Texas Community. As an adult, he served on the usher board. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the trustee board and would remain a faithful ,
supportive member of the church. On alternate Sundays , he could be found worshiping with friends or family members at other local churches. When out of town, he was the silent visitor who would just nod his head at recognition time. He enjoyed gospel music as well as what he called "good preaching. "

He was blessed with two dream jobs which involved heavy equipment and driving. He was employed by T.S. Small Trucking Company and later retired from Dorchester County Public Works Road and Maintenance Dept . He was a loyal employee of both companies and well liked by employers and co-workers alike.

His unique personality will surely be missed by the numerous acquaintances he has made during his lifetime , but most especially by his family who loved him dearly. Each is left with their own fond memories or special story of an adventure with Leroy. He would relate many amusing stories about his travels all along the eastern coastline from Florida to New York with detours in between. No matter where Roy was, he was sure to be home for the St. Paul Camp Meeting , his favorite time of the year. When needed Roy was there and sometimes without being asked, he would complete the task.

Knowing his final trip had to be made alone, it was on angel wings , Leroy gently entered the Master's arms on Monday morning , December 18, 2017, at MUSC, Charleston , SC. Others who preceded him in death include a brother, Lawrence Williams, and niece, Jana Primus.

He leaves to cherish his memory: devoted siblings , Elden Williams (Barbara) and Idella Williams; a special brother and sister, Freddie Williams and Deloris Lewis-Ferguson (David) ; sons of his heart, James Kelvin and Dwayne Welters; nieces and nephews, Cynthia Scott (Bernard), Patrice Grace , Karen Williams, Elden Williams , Jr . (Maureen), Veronica Brothers, Priscilla Ledbetter and Shawn Williams; uncle, John Wesley Lewis; sister-in-law, Albertha W illiams; great nieces and nephews ; a host of cousins and sorrowing fr ie n ds.
