Obituary

Lela Mae Snider Brown passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at her home in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Ms. Brown, the daughter of Walter and Lynell Snider, was born February 28, 1935, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Ms. Brown moved to Newport News to live with relatives and where she married. She became a licensed practical nurse in 1959, and worked at Riverside Hospital, Hampton, Virginia. Ms. Brown moved to South Carolina in 1973, where she continued her profession as an LPN, at Orangeburg Regional Hospital. She worked with helicopter transportation of dialysis patients and newborns to Richmond Memorial Hospital. Ms. Brown also worked at other health care centers over the years of her career. She retired in 1999. She continued to serve her community by working in the Flu clinic in Walgreens in Orangeburg. Mr. Brown attended St. Paul AME Church in Harleyville, SC, where she joined the Senior Choir. She was a devout member of the church until her health declined. Ms. Brown's hobbies included travel, working with performing arts - the Orangeburg Part-Time Players, gardening, arts, crafts. She believed in keeping busy.

Ms. Brown's parents, younger brother Eddie Banks Snider, dear cousin Julie McDonald, predeceased her. Ms. Brown is survived by her daughter Cynthia L. Greenhow of Dorchester County, SC, sister, Sarah Snider Banks of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and a nephew, a host of cousins, and many friends. Her wonderful smile and spirit will be greatly missed by many people.
