To his wife, he was Risher. To his family he was Allen. Friends called him Joe. His children called him Da, and his grandchildren, Granddaddy Joe. God called him Beloved and on November 27, 2018, from the Regional Medical Center in Walterboro, SC, He called His beloved into the comfort of His arms.

Joseph Allen Risher was born on January 5, 1948, in Walterboro, SC, to Virginia Farmer and the late Alfred Risher. At an early age, he joined Greenville United Methodist Church and later continued his faith at New Grace United Methodist Church.  He often supported his son-in-law, Pastor Douglas Simmons, by attending revivals whenever he preached in the St. George area. Joseph was a 1967 graduate of Williams Memorial High School.  Risher was a hard worker and gave many years of service to U.S.Coco Mat of St. George, SC, The Dye Plant of Charleston, SC, the Adidas Company of Charleston, SC, and Dorchester County Public Works, until his body no longer allowed him the physical ability to work.

Throughout his life, Joe was known to be a true and dependable friend in his community. As the "taxi driver," as he was lovingly referred to, Joe would spend many days helping people by taking them to their doctor appointments, to get groceries and on other errands, and he enjoyed doing it all the same.

On July 14, 1967, Risher was joined in matrimony to the former Catherine "Jackie" Wade. Da was a loving father, and his grandchildren were his joy.  Allen was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Risher and Reggie Haynes, and two sisters, Wilma Farmer and Albertha Youman, and a special cousin, Arnold Gilliam.

Memories of Joseph will be cherished by: his wife, Catherine "Jackie" Risher of St. George, SC; his mother, Virginia Farmer of Walterboro, SC; one son, Xavier Montrell Singleton, of Walterboro, SC; two daughters, Ronda (Douglas) Simmons of Orangeburg, SC, and Rena Risher of Trenton, NJ; four grandchildren, Rijon Gilbert and Abdul-Malik Shabazz of Trenton, NJ, and Taylor and Tyra Simmons of Orangeburg, SC; three brothers, Willie C. Risher of Springtown, SC, Isaac (Savanda) Farmer of Columbia, SC, and Alonzo Farmer of Walterboro, SC; and five sisters, Patricia Hill and Michelle Cochran of Decatur, GA, Helena (Joseph) Saxby of Stockbridge, GA, Kaffie (Arthur) Whaley of Walterboro, SC, and Crystal (David) Brown of Springtown, SC. He also leaves a special nephew, niece and caregiver, Reuben and Ruby Amaker of Reevesville, SC; one aunt, Mary Risher of Reevesville, SC; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Walton and Herline Wade of Trenton, NJ, and Nellie Risher of St. George, SC; two brothers-in-law, Alton Wade, Jr., of Warner Robins, GA, and Lurenda Wade of Washington Terrace, UT, and a host of other special nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
