Joseph Henry Boyd answered God's call from labor to reward on July 10, 2022 at Roper St. Francis Hospital. Joseph, or as he was commonly referred to as "Joe" or "Joe Henry", was born on September 21, 1940 to the late Henry Boyd and Amanda Brooks Boyd. He was the fourth of seven children.

Joe attended public school in Dorchester County graduating from Kennedy High School, Harleyville, SC.  Upon graduation he moved to New York to pursue a career as a diesel mechanic, working for many years both at Associated Transport and Bilkay Trucking Companies.

Joe was united in marriage to Zeddie DeLee and to this union two children were born, Alisa and Stephen. The family resided in New York for ten years.

In 1977 Joe returned to South Carolina and opened Boyd's Auto & Diesel Shop in Harleyville. He became well known as the town's major mechanic. Joe operated Boyd's Auto & Diesel Shop until health problems no longer allowed him to operate the business. Even though he no longer owned the business he became an unofficial consultant to anyone having a car problem. His expertise as a mechanic was passed on to his two grandsons, Brainard and Michael.

While in New York Joe attended Springfield Gardens United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member. Upon his return to South Carolina, he rejoined Greater St. Paul and continued to work faithfully for the Lord. He served as a Steward and his name can be found on the cornerstone of the Church. He also served as a member of the Campground Committee. For many years Joe served as President of the Local Lay Organization.  For eight years he also served as the Charleston District Lay Organization President. His leadership as District Lay President was exemplary. His main force during his administration was to ensure that all members were kept abreast of the activities of the Lay Organization. He was referred to as a Lay Organization trailblazer.

Joe was very loving and caring and acted as a surrogate father for his nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his beloved parents, two sisters (Carolyn Calhoun and Meredith Boyd), a brother (Phillip) and two nephews (Marvin Boyd and Melvin Boyd).

He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his wife Zeddie Boyd, a daughter Alisa Boyd of Dorchester, a son Stephen (Ylanda) of Greenville, SC., one sister, Dorothy Hill of Harleyville, one brother, Douglas Boyd of Summerville, a niece raised as a sister, Maryellen Payne, a nephew  raised as a brother, Clarence Boyd, three grandchildren: Brainard Bryant Jr, Second Lieutenant  Michael J. Edwards, and Christyiana Boyd;  a brother-in-law, Herman DeLee, three sisters-in-law: Ellen Boyd, Carrie Belle DeLee and Queen Ester Brooks; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
