Johnnie Lee Sims peacefully departed this life on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:25 p.m. in New York. Johnnie Lee Sims was born September 28, 1935 to the late Eddie Sims and Louise Cobb Sims. He was later reared by Eddie and Gladys Sims.

Johnnie attended the Public Schools of Dorchester County. Johnnie moved to New York in 1957 where he met and married his late wife, Mary Sims. From this union three children were born, one son, Randy and two daughters, Robin and Christina.

Johnnie was a faithful and active member of Harvey Chapel Baptist Church until his health declined.

Johnnie worked as a long haul truck driver for Eastern Steel Corporation for 40 plus years. After retiring, he relocated back home to St. George and became employed with Dorchester County Solid Waste. When his health declined he returned to New York to be with his family. Johnnie was a Mason with the Key Lodge and Emperial Lodge. Johnnie loved fishing, his family and having fun.

Johnnie enjoyed his nights when his great nephew, Donovan would read the bible to him. He also enjoyed shooting the breeze with nephew Stevie, talking to his great nephew Zachary about school and fussing with his niece Linda Rose. He did not miss a day without talking to his brother, Leroy or his cousin, Emma.

Johnnie loved his cell phone. He could not use it well but always called his daughter, Robin at 6:30 a.m. every morning saying "he's hungry". And eat he could do.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his son Randy Sims, two brothers, Sidney Sims and Eddie Sims, Jr. and one sister, Lillie Ruth North.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his daughters, Robin and Christina of New York; one son, Steward of Ankridge, Alaska; his brother, Leroy (Dorothy) of St. George, SC; one son-in-law; two daughters-in-law; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one granddaughter-in-law; Roy C., Tody Cobb; special cousins, Gilbert Sisters; ten nieces; four nephews; 4 nephews-in-law; a host of other relatives and friends.
