John Henry Salley departed his life on October 30, 2009 at Ruby Western Manor in Brooklyn, New York. He was born in St. George South Carolina October 19, 1922, to the late Henry and Agga Lee Salley.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Catherine Salley, three sons: Leroy Salley, Lincoln Virgil Brice, and Anthony Salley; two sisters: Dorothy Salley, Julia Salley; and two brothers: Leon Salley and Herbert Salley.

John Henry, known to his family and friends as "Chum" attended the public schools in St. George, South Carolina. He moved to New York early in life and was employed by AJ Lumber Company until retirement.

He attended the Brownsville Community Baptist Church, in Brooklyn where he served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board and in various other membership capacities until his health began to decline. He was outgoing and enjoyed making people laugh. He loved God, his family and his church.

Left to cherish his memories are four sons: Carl (Beverly) Salley, of Brooklyn, NY, Henry (Beatrice) Salley, Brooklyn, NY, John (Yvette) Salley, Brooklyn, NY, and Anthony Joshua Scott, Charleston SC; two daughters: Delaine Salley, Columbia, SC and Gwendolyn Johnson, Bronx, NY; three sisters: Ruth Lee, St George, SC, Virginia Major, Brooklyn, NY and Eula Grantham, St George, SC; two daughters-in-law: Fannie Brice and Queen Salley Newkirk; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Salley and Ida Ince, one uncle, Willie Brice and one aunt, Annie Carson; 27 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives and friends.
