John Herbert Martino's Obituary
Mr. John Herbert Martino was born in St. George, South Carolina, on August 20, 1930. A son of the late Mr. Johnnie Martino and Mrs. Mattie Utsey Lewis Martino. He departed this life on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Colleton Regional Medical Center, Walterboro, South Carolina.
Herbert, as he was known to many, attended Williams Memorial High School, before being drafted in the United States Army in 1951, where he served in the Korean War.
After serving his country, Herbert became a businessman. He was the owner of "The Big H" in St. George, SC for many years. After retiring, he became a long time farmer. He then picked up a hobby of hunting and the love of dogs which he adored until his death. He was also a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Herbert was united in holy matrimony to Eartha Lee Jamison Martino for over 45 years.
His passing will be mourned but his life and memories will continue to be celebrated by his loving and devoted wife, Eartha Lee Jamison Martino; three daughters, Brenda Martino (Ricky) Harris of St. George, South Carolina, Terrell Martino of the home and Delores Mitchell (John) of Cleveland, Ohio; five sons, Terrance (Ann) Martino, Donnie (Sharon Morris) Martino, Troy William Martino all of Brooklyn, New York, Ronnie and Tony Martino of the home; nine grandchildren — three were raised in the home — Rod (Tyler), Trey (Jada) Harris, and Tierra D. Martino; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Clara Lee Martino Lewis of St. George, SC and Bernice Reeves of Trenton, New Jersey; one brother, Jonathan Lewis of St. George, SC; nine sisters-in-law, Ruth Hayes, Bernice Cobbs, Mary Lou McCants, Alean Jamison, Gertrude Martino and Rosa Mae Jamison all of St. George, SC, Willie Mae Jamison of Dorchester, SC, Fannie Jennings of Summerville, SC and Mary Martino of Philadelphia, PA; three brothers-in-law, Albert Anderson, Freddie McCants both of St. George, SC and Walter Jennings of Summerville, SC; a beloved niece, Mrs. Loretta M. Anderson of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
