John Lee King, affectionately known as "Bubba" to his siblings and childhood friends and "Papa John" to his grandchildren, was born on October 22, 1948 in Ridgeville, SC to the late Mr. John King and Mrs. Artlee King.  John lived a well lived life and transitioned peacefully from this earth to heaven on Thursday, July 6, 2023.

John was spiritually raised at New Hope United Methodist Church in the Givhans Community. John was educated in the public school system of Dorchester County, graduating from Alston High School in 1964. After graduating, he continued his education by attending Denmark Technical College and receiving an associate degree in 1967.  In 1968, John then enlisted into the United States Army and later in the Reserves where he served his country faithfully for a total of 27 years. During his military tenure, he received numerous accommodations and awards for his Dedication to Duty, Selfless Service, and Outstanding Professionalism. John later went on to receive a second Associate degree in Public Service in Criminal Justice in 1979.  John was also employed by General Electric, Navy Shipyard in Charleston, S.C. and Camp Lejeune MCB, N.C. where he retired from public services.

On November 28, 1970, John was united in holy matrimony to Wilhemenia Crum King the love of his life. To this union, one child was born, Wanda V. King-McMillan.

John was a loyal member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Ridgeville, S.C.  Anyone who knew John, knew that he loved the Lord, his family and his church.  John's gratification really came from teaching the word of God to the children and adults in Sunday School. John also dedicated much of his time to helping his local community by participating in the following organizations: Lay organization, Sons of Allen, Sunday School Superintendent, Class Leader and Boy Scotts of America Leader.

To cherish precious memories, John leaves his loving wife, Wilhemenia of  52 years and one  daughter, Wanda-King McMillan (Tyler), grandchildren Joseph and Jacobi McMillan; siblings; still born sister (Preceded him in death), Delores King, Wayne King, preceded him in death (Ella), Jackie King preceded him in death (Lurene), Rounette King Desousa (Alexander) and Anthony King; uncle, Clarence Felder and aunts, Earthell Bynum and Mattie King Blanchard; nieces and nephews, Sabrina King-Hayward (Efrem), Nickie King, Devin Robinson (Julian), Dwayne King, Adrian King-Mitchell (Tyrone), Karen King, Lanetra King and Alexander Desousa; In-laws, Willie Kizer Crum  (Hermenia) (both preceded him in death), sisters and brothers in-law; Angie Crum (preceded him in death),  Rev. Dr.  Willie Kizer Crum, Jr.(Saundra), George Crum, Lula Bryant (Isaac), Rev. Dr. Rosemary  Simmons-Brown (Jonny), Virginia B. Crum, Fred Crum, Sr., Mattie Middlebrooks (Howard) and Elizabeth Huffman; a host of nieces, nephews, loving relatives and friends.
