John Henry Brown was born on February 20, 1949, in Dorchester County, South Carolina, to the late Olin Brown, Sr. and Lula Robinson Brown. He entered eternal rest on Sunday, January 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

At an early age, John joined St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Bowman, South Carolina. He later proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. John was especially active with Disabled Veterans and took great pride in his military service to the United States of America.

John was employed for many years at the Blue Circle Cement Plant, where he worked as a welder and later retired. After retirement, he continued to serve others as a skilled handyman, repairing televisions and assisting family and friends with small projects until his health began to decline.

John was a joyful and fun-loving individual who enjoyed telling jokes and spending quality time with his family. At a moment's notice, he would host a barbecue in his yard simply to fellowship with loved ones. He had a deep love for music and good times, and together with his brother Olin, formed a musical group called the "Soul Survivors." John served as the DJ, while his brother played the drums.

John will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lowman Capers and Owen Brown; and two sisters, Lillian Johnson and Martha L. Brown.

His cherished memories will forever live on through his devoted wife, Ornita Brown; his children, Shirley Smith of Plant City, FL; Mattie (Isiah) Mays of Reevesville, SC; Sohn Daniels of Charlotte, NC; Alisa Brown-Lemon of St. George, SC; Natasha Brown of Schererville, IN; and Jonathan Brown of Hinesville, GA; one stepson, Kevin (Charlotte) Brothers of Atlanta, GA; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bessie (Benjamin) Thomas, Lucille (Willie Gene) Primus, both of Bowman, SC, and Justine Fogle of Rowesville, SC; two brothers, Benjamin Brown and Olin (Maggie) Brown, Jr., both of Bowman, SC; sisters-in-law, Jean Capers and Helen Brown, both of Bowman, SC; Carrie (Greg) Hopkins and Colette (Bruce) Pringle, both of St. George, SC; Meldon (Abraham) Limehouse of Summerville, SC; Judy Webster of Atlanta, GA; and Phyllis Britt of Charleston, SC; brothers-in-law, Joe (Linza) Britt of Harleyville, SC, and Michael (Angela) Britt of St. George, SC; his dear friend, Rev. David (Barbara) Lary; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
