Obituary

Mr. John Herbert Cobbs entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at St. George Healthcare Center in St. George, SC. He was born on May 25, 1925, in Grover, SC. Mr. Cobbs was the son of the late Elliott and Viola Britt Cobbs. He was raised in the Texas Community of St. George. He joined St. Mark Baptist Church, St. George, SC, at an early age and later joined the Sandhill Baptist Church of Walterboro, SC.

Mr. Cobbs (Little Suggie) spent many years of his adulthood in Florida before moving to Walterboro, SC, to live with his brother, Joseph, and his family. Although Mr. Cobbs did not have children of his own, he was blessed with nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and whom he loved and cherished as if they were his own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mr. Cobbs had a meek and gentle spirit. Before his health failed, he enjoyed spending time with his family, going to the Senior Citizen Center in Walterboro, and attending church. At St. George HealthCare Center he was a great resident and was known for his smile and riding in his chair wearing his big brim hat or a baseball cap.

Mr. Cobbs' parents and seven siblings proceeded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Rosa Wade, of St. George, SC; his nieces/caregivers – Louise (Rev. Robert) Edwards, Corrie Cooper, Sherri Jerideau, and Adrienne Elaine (Eddie) Stokes of Walterboro. He also leaves Woodrow (Ethel Mae) Cobbs and Odell (Dora Lee) Cobbs of Walterboro, SC; Ida Mae (A.J.) Raysor, Sammy (Janice) Grant, Robert Lee Grant of Bamberg, SC; Lemar Grant of Concord, NC; Jerome Wade, Johnny Wade, and Thomas (Brenda) Wade of St. George, SC. Grand-nephews he helped raise and babysit: Marlon Cobbs of Atlanta, GA, and Dwayne (Cerea) Jerideau of Irmo, SC; Great nephews Clifford Tareek Smalls and Chandler Taylor of Walterboro, SC. He also leaves a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, other relatives, and friends.
