Brother John Henry Carson (Sugar Foot), the second oldest of five brothers and one sister, was the son of the late Artimus Carson and the late Frances Gadson Carson. One brother preceded him in death—Willie J. Carson.. He was born on December 27, 1938 in Dorchester County, South Carolina. He departed this life on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Trident Medical Center, Charleston, South Carolina.

John Henry (Sugar Foot) attended the public schools of Dorchester County. At an early age he joined St. Mark Baptist Church in the Texas Community of St. George, SC. Brother Carson was united in holy matrimony to Ruthie Lary Carson on April 4, 1959. To this union, two daughters were born—Cathy Carson and Shanna Carson. John Henry loved drag racing and fishing. He was lovingly called "Skinny" by his daughters and grandchildren..

John Henry was also a Great friend and well known in the State of New York and South Carolina. He loved to talk and make you laugh and he will greatly be missed by many. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Ruthie Carson; two daughters-Cathy Carson of St. George, S.C., and Shanna Carson of Brooklyn, New York;. three brothers, Nathaniel (Betty) Carson of St. George, SC, Sam (Mary) Carson of Georgia, and Ulysees (Barbara) Carson of Queens, New York; one sister, Pauline Carson of St. George, SC; one God-brother, Shelia (Janie) Martino of St. George, SC; one grandson, Ron (Charlie) Anderson; three granddaughters, LaRhonda Carson-Joseph, Ashley Carson and Jaida Lynch.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
