Mr. Joe "Bubba" Young, Jr., the son of the late Eula Lee and Joe Young, Sr. was born on December 22, 1955 in Holly Hill, SC. He entered into eternal rest on March 30, 2015 at MUSC following an extended illness.
Bubba grew up and attended the public schools of Holly Hill, SC. At an early age, he became a member of Rock Hill AME Church in his later years a member of Miracle Faith Temple United Church of God. As a young man, he developed a love and passion for horses. This led to a very long and fulfilling career working in various state horse training facilities. He performed duties such as hot walker, groomer, and eventually work his way up to the nighttime overseer of all horses assigned to his training facility. He had the pleasure of training some of the best horses that eventually performed in several of the nationally televised racing events. In his travels, he was employed by several horse training facilities: Suffolk Downs, MA, Belmont Park, NY, and Holly Hill Training Center, SC. He was a very proud horse enthusiast and enjoyed working with these animals. His final employer was Sims Bark in Bowman, SC.
In addition to his love of horses, Bubba was a very humble and loving man. He really enjoyed laughing and talking with friends and family. Though he had no children of his own, he treated each and every one of his nieces and nephews as if they were his own.
Preceding Bubba in death was his eldest sister, Ms. Maggie L. Young.
He leaves to cherish his memories five sisters: Ms. Elizabeth L. Young of Harleyville, SC, Ms. Mattie M. Young of Vance, SC, Mrs. Helen (Jackie) Griffin of St. George, SC, Mrs. Tennis (John) Walker and Ms. Sylvia M. Young both of Holly, Hill, SC; three brothers: Mr. William Young of Holly Hill, SC, Mr. Anthony Young of Phoenix, AZ and Mr. Abraham Young of Moncks Corner, SC; two aunts-in-law: Mrs. Roberta Young of Jamaica, NY and Mrs. Mattie M. Gilliard of Vance, SC; six nieces, nine nephews, a host of great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
